Amorim Cork’s new cork stopper coating solution, Bee W®, combines two core elements of the company’s activity: innovation and sustainability. Launched in 2024, Bee W® is a coating of biological origin, based on beeswax, intended for natural cork stoppers, which helps improve their unique sealing properties.
These two natural products have remarkable similarities, including the fact that cork’s unique honeycomb structure, with more than 800 cells in each stopper, is similar to a beehive. This is the first time that cork and beeswax are combined in a single solution and they support each other: the biopolymers used in Bee W® reinforce the technical capabilities of natural cork stoppers, providing low and consistent oxygen intake rates, thereby improving the consistency of the wine’s flavours and aromas between different bottles of aged wines.
Bee W® therefore represents the ideal option for wine producers who are looking for sensory consistency and quality. Overall, the solution guarantees the full aromatic freshness and fruitiness of wines, maximising their redox potential.
This pioneering product recently received an award for ‘Technological Innovation’ at the prestigious ENOMAQ trade fair in Zaragoza, Spain. António Rios de Amorim, Corticeira Amorim’s Chairman and CEO, said: ‘This recognition motivates us to continue to improve and evolve, since this innovation advances us along the path to a more sustainable future. Bee W®, in particular, combines the best of nature with the most advanced technology, reflecting Corticeira Amorim’s continuous endeavours to find new solutions while preserving the centuries-old connection between cork and wine.’
