100% natural, renewable, recyclable and reusable
The increase in the global population has placed unprecedented pressure on the world's finite resources and has fostered a new awareness for the need to minimise the impacts created by companies. Greater efficiency in the use of resources is critical in order to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reduce the environmental impact of human activities on the planet. Cork, as a 100% natural, renewable, recyclable and reusable product, is an excellent alternative in its own right to reduce global dependence on non-renewable products.
Objective
Ensure product safety and quality, support research, development and innovation, and promote sustainable solutions for all is the objective of the Sustainable by nature Programme for customers and end-consumers.
This goal, based on the driver Promote R&D+I and leverage economic performance, is aligned with the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, in particular with SDG nº 8 - Decent work and economic growth e SDG nº 9 - Industry, innovation and infrastructure and e SDG nº13 - Climate action.
The Programme defines qualitative targets for 2030, applicable to the entire sustainability perimeter:
- Strengthen resilience and adaptability to climate-related risks;
- Upgrade infrastructure and rehabilitate industries to make them sustainable;
- Reduce negative environmental impact;
- Support productive activities, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation;
- Enhance scientific research.
How it's made

Consequently, all the Organisation’s workers must strive for efficiency in processes, transparency and integrity in actions and treatment, guaranteeing safe and quality products and services.
Corticeira Amorim has been carrying out various studies to assess the environmental impacts and carbon footprints of its main products, focusing on the different stages of their life cycle. The studies include, among others, forestry activities, cork preparation, forest transport, production, finishing and packaging, as well as soil use and provide relevant information on the environmental contribution of cork products and provide Corticeira Amorim’s close to 30,000 national and international clients with quantifiable data on how to reduce the carbon footprint of their products.
In order to ensure that Corticeira Amorim's operations and products comply with all quality, safety and hygiene guarantees, Corticeira Amorim has a set of external certifications that attest to the fulfilment of the specific requirements of different sectors and markets. These include ISO 9001 certification and food safety certifications.
In addition, Corticeira Amorim products are subject to voluntary and mandatory tests and audits that ensure the maintenance of high standards of quality and safety. Production processes and product characteristics are clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
