Establishment of Ipocork - Indústria de Pavimentos e Decoração, S.A. (currently Amorim Revestimentos, S.A.) marks Corticeira Amorim's entry into the parquet and coverings market.

International expansion takes an Iberian route. Samec, S.A. - Sociedad Anónima de Manufactura Española del Corcho, one of the largest companies in the cork industry in Spain, a country with significant cork oak forests.

Corticeira Amorim successfully begins to produce cork rubber.

The first processing plant outside national territory is created - Comatral - Compagnie Marocaine de Transformation du Liège, S.A. - in Skhirat, Morocco. It is established in the second most important cork oak forest region in the world, the Mediterranean coast of Africa. Morocco represents 400 000 hectares of productive area, 15% of the world total, despite producing only around 26 000 tonnes of cork/year.

The productive fabric of the Portuguese cork sector changes. Half the raw material exported is now industrially manufactured, representing 75% of the value of Portuguese cork exports. Maintaining its leadership in the sector, Portugal becomes a manufacturing country. The district of Aveiro, where Corticeira Amorim is based, becomes the country's cork stopper capital, responsible for 75% of national production.
