Supporting families
In late November and early December, volunteers from Corticeira Amorim joined AMI – Assistência Médica Internacional at its facilities in Porto to prepare 148 food hampers for families in vulnerable situations. Each box also reflected the commitment of those who chose to give their time and empathy. As AMI recalls, “It does not matter when, how or where. From the individual to the global scale, we face all challenges with the same attitude.” This spirit guided the volunteers, fully aligned with the organisation’s mission to build a more just, equitable and sustainable society.
Creating more welcoming spaces for children and young people
At the same time, 57 volunteers, in both the north and south of the country, supported the Associação Novo Futuro, a national organisation that cares for children and young people at social risk in small family-style homes, prioritising the preservation of sibling relationships. At Casa Laminga, in Cascais, and Casa Pinheiro, in Vila Nova de Gaia, volunteers painted walls, assembled furniture, organised spaces and decorated each room with the magic of Christmas. Between hammer strokes and laughter, there was also time to share moments of connection with the children.
At a time of year when the spirit of sharing is especially strong, the volunteers showed that solidarity is, above all, about being present.
