Green Cork Schools is a project by Quercus, supported by Corticeira Amorim, that brings together schools and communities around the recycling of used cork stoppers and the planting of native trees in cork oak forests through the Floresta Comum project.
In the most recent edition, 96,739 students and educators joined forces and collected 21,190.5 kg of cork stoppers, a significant 20% increase compared to the previous year, showing that small actions can lead to big results.
The 2024/25 edition highlighted the efforts of EB de Gião (Vila do Conde), EB Dr. Fernando Peixinho (Oliveira do Bairro), EPAMAC (Marco de Canaveses) and CASL – Casa de Acolhimento Sol Nascente (Santo Tirso), recognising them as key contributors to this collective success.
Since 2008, Green Cork has promoted circular economy and environmental awareness, inspiring younger generations to care for the planet, one cork at a time. By recycling a natural and sustainable product such as cork, harvested from cork oak trees, the project helps protect biodiversity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
The Green Cork 2025/2026 campaign is back, with registrations now open for the Green Cork Schools/IPSS 2025/2026 programme, in its 18th edition, strengthening the connection between nature and education and inviting everyone to be part of this positive change.
