18 July 2025
Corticeira Amorim’s CEO and Chairman has been awarded one of Portugal's highest decorations, in recognition of his contribution to innovation and the international projection of Portugal.
This distinction, one of the highest decorations awarded by the Portuguese State, aims to recognise services rendered to Portugal, at home or abroad, that enhance Portuguese culture, its heritage and foster the international projection of Portugal.
The award comes as António Rios de Amorim concludes his mandate as Chairman of the Board of COTEC Portugal, a business association dedicated to promoting innovation, competitiveness and cooperation between companies and scientific institutions.
António Rios Amorim explained that this distinction has a profound personal and collective significance for him: "It is a great honour to have served Portugal. I am very grateful to the President of the Republic for this recognition, which I receive on behalf of my entire family, also extending to all those who have been and are part of this journey. I would like to highlight the role played by the President of the Republic, who has been outstanding, as the honorary president of COTEC, in honouring and supporting the role that the institution plays in promoting innovation in Portugal."
Antonio Rios de Amorim's career includes his exceptional contribution to the development and modernisation of the Portuguese economy, driving the growth of strategic sectors such as cork and establishing Corticeira Amorim as a world leader in the transformation of this unique natural resource.
In 2006, Américo Amorim was also honoured with the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator, after having previously received the honorary distinctions of Commendation of Agricultural and Industrial Merit in the early 1980s, thereby reaffirming Corticeira Amorim's legacy of leadership and excellence in the Portuguese and international business world.
