Bringing supercritical CO₂ technology into the 21st century, the new Spark One Xpür® micro-granulated stopper for sparkling wines combines innovation and sustainability. Specially designed for sparkling wines, this stopper incorporates Amorim Cork’s innovative Xpür® technology.
Amorim Cork’s Xpür® technology was launched in 2021 to deliver non-detectable TCA performance* in still wine stoppers. It improves on the conventional application of supercritical CO₂, used for several decades, by optimizing the production process, reducing energy consumption by around 75% and using only 10% of the CO₂ previously required, as well as significantly shortening production time.
These benefits have now been extended to sparkling wines. Spark One Xpür® combines high performance with sensory neutrality and guarantees a perfect seal, while maintaining the characteristic effervescence of sparkling wine due to the stopper’s excellent resistance to pressure.
As well as offering a valuable contribution to sustainability, Xpür® technology reduces TCA levels to below 0.3 ng/L in microgranulated cork stoppers, while maintaining the physical-mechanical properties of the cork stopper intact.
Christophe Fouquet, Co-CEO of Amorim Cork, commented: ‘With its growing concern for sustainability in the wine sector, Corticeira Amorim has stood out for its environmental innovation. The company has now launched Spark One Xpür, the most ecological stopper for sparkling wines. Integrating Xpür technology, this stopper not only preserves the quality of the wine, but also makes a significant contribution to reducing its environmental impact, offering an eco-friendly solution that meets the growing demand for sustainable alternatives in the wine market’.
