High performance cork composites

The result is a portfolio of products, applications and solutions for some of the world’s most technological, ground-breaking and demanding sectors, such as the aerospace, automotive, construction, energy, mobility, footwear, sports surfaces or interior design industries.

The company was founded in 1963 to take advantage of 70% of the waste produced by the cork industry, and at the time was called Corticeira Amorim. Amorim Cork Composites thereby began a successful history in the Circular Economy, adopting principles of reduction, reuse and recycling. The company reinvents end-of-life materials, combines heterogeneous raw materials and employs innovative methods, formulae and technologies, while always underlining the unique premises of cork, which underpins the superior performance of the final product.

Amorim Cork Composites was created with the goal of leveraging the verticalisation process of the companies of the Amorim group, and currently operates in 25 business segments. With certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®- C022338) and the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®- C022338), the company leads research programs and study projects in partnership with national and international organisations. In 2018, Amorim Cork Composites opened i.cork factory - a pilot factory totally dedicated to research and development of innovative products that value cork, whose main mission is to design new materials, and test and explore the application of technologies that haven’t yet been industrialised in the sector.

"I never throw away a cork and my hands as well as my feet in many ways enjoy the soft and warm comfort of this natural product. But my intuitive affection is also matched by convictions: its outstanding ecological qualities make cork one of the most obvious basic materials to develop the future of our environment."

Alexander von Vegesack

“We are at a turning point in the world of design and in the creative world, where it becomes increasingly difficult to do something that is not sustainable. And here, we have a 100% sustainable product. This gives cork an impressive advantage.”

Ben Evans, diretor do London Design Festival

"Cork is a material which is certainly worthy of attention in design. Its appeal lies in the combination of its old-world appeal and new-world technical capabilities."
